You can save a lot of your money by learning the guidance and replacing it with your own. By the end of this blog, you will be able to know about snooker table cushion replacement easily.

How Long Does The Cushion On A Snooker Table Last?

The cushions of snooker tables are known to be long-lasting as they usually are in fine condition for nearly 20-25 years mostly but that's not always the case. The cushions sometimes don't even work for more than 5-10 years of play so they might need replacement to start playing again. The condition and age of these cushions depends on how much the snooker table is used. If you play occasionally then they are bound to last for nearly 20 or more years. Snooker tables in pubs, bars, or where games are played regularly will have the cushions worn out pretty early then 20 years. Its maintenance is also another factor that can have an impact on the life of the cushion.

When Should You Replace The Cushions?

The balls won't provide that much bounce when in contact as they used to provide and that's how you will know that the cushions need to be replaced to enhance the gameplay again. You might hear a thudding voice after playing the shot. This means that the rails and cushions have to be replaced in order to have proper gameplay.

Another way to know if it needs replacement or not is by rolling the ball against the rails of a snooker table and seeing if it bounces for 3-4 times or not. If the ball doesn't bounce like that, then it needs a replacement.

Guidance Of Replacing The Snooker's Cushions

Firstly you will have to dismantle and remove a few things from the snooker table. You should remove the feather stick, the felt cloth and the stapes. To remove any excessive glue present on the table, use a scrapper as it will level the surface. Here's a step by step guidance on what you will have to do throughout the process of replacing the cushions.

1.      Removing the rails and felt

Start the process by unscrewing the rails to fit into the snooker table. Pull and pop them off after you have unscrewed them. A razor knife can be used to slice the length of the rail and then remove the feather strip once you've sliced the rail. The rail should be turned upside down and then the felt present on it should be removed by using a hand. The leftovers of the felt will be removed in the next step. The staples present on it can be removed by using nose pliers and it isn't necessary to remove every single one of them but try to remove as much as you can.

2.      Removing the facing and adhesive glue

Facing is basically the end cap of the rubber rails. Once you have removed the facing, then you can easily take off the old rubber railing. The scraper can be used to remove the old glue present on the rails and then apply some glue on your new rails so that they can fit firmly on the snooker table when applied.

3.      Aligning new rails

The placement of the new rubber rail on top of the wood should be precise as it can affect gameplay. The hand can be used to align the rails in the perfect position. This should be done carefully as you don't want to place the rails at incorrect angles and then replace it all over again. Mark the ends of the cushion by a straight edge and then follow the angle of the new rails to the top to leave a place for the new facings. A sharp knife can be used to cut off the useless edges. Add some glue to the new facings and the excess glue can be wiped with a knife.

4.      The final step

Here is a breakup of the things that you might have to do in the final step:

·         Placement of the new rails over the channel at the place of the feather strip. A little cloth should be left at both ends to staple the cloth with a rail.

·         Use the hammer gently and knock the feather strip so it holds the felt in its place.

·         The excessive part of the feather strip should be trimmed to make the work look neat and professional.

·         Fold the excess cloth tightly along the contours of rail and then staple it.

·         The cloth should be stapled while snugged but it shouldn't be very tight as it will affect the shape of the rails.

·         Fold and staple the other end too and you are ready to start playing with the new cushions on your snooker table.
